Arsenal continued their imperious charge towards the Premier League title on Saturday as they began the final stint of the season after the international break. The Gunners hosted Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium, hopeful of adding yet another win to their tally.

It took 35 minutes for Mikel Arteta’s side to open the scoring as Gabriel Jesus found the back of the net on his first start since November, having made his return from a serious knee injury. Ben White doubled the tally shortly after half-time before the Brazilian scored a brace to take full control of the game.

Rasmus Kristensen pulled one back for the visitors, but a late strike from Granit Xhaka restored the three-goal cushion and ensured the home side took all three points. It keeps Arsenal eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, having played a game extra over rivals Manchester City.

“What we can control is what we can do,” Arteta said on the title race after the match. “We’ve been discussing that for the past few days. After the international break there was a lot of tricky situations to manage with a few players.

“There’s always a question about how the players will react after that. I think they were exceptional, they were really at it, everybody wanted to be involved and we won the game in a convincing way which is good and the only thing that we can control.”

Arsenal’s victory was their 23rd in the Premier League this season out of a possible 29 played so far, showing their great run in the campaign. With nine games remaining, focus will be on winning the title, but the records look set to continue tumbling, including one that has stood for nearly 20 years.

That’s the win record set by the “Invincibles” team of 2003/04, who went undefeated for the whole season, recording 26 wins in the league campaign. The current side sit just three wins off that with nine games remaining to tick those off, with their current form suggesting they could smash that and continue on their way towards the title.
